State karatekas bring laurel

Shillong, July 8: Thirty one members from the Meghalaya State Karate-Do Federation (MSKDF) brought laurels to the state by winning 60 medals in the 7th National Zendokai Karate Championship held on the July 6-7, 2024 at Assam Rifles Indoor Stadium Agartala, Tripura organised by the Tripura Zendokai Karate Association in collaboration with the Inspector General of Assam Rifles under the auspices of the All India Zendokai Karate Association, a member of the International Zendokai Karate Association recognized by the Karate India Organization (KIO), under the umbrella of the World Karate Federation (WKF), the Asian Karate Federation (AKF), the common Wealth Karate Federation (CKF), the South Karate Do Federation (SAKF) & International Olympic Committee(IOC).
About 10 states from all over the country took part in the above Karate-Do Championship.
The Champion Trophy was bagged by the Manipur Team , the 1st Runner’s-Up trophy by Meghalaya and the 2nd Runner’s-Up trophy by Tripura Zendokai Karate Team
The Meghalaya Karate team received a total of 60 medals –32 Gold, 21 Silver, and 7 Bronze – in the championship both in Kumite and Katas (Individual & Team) events.
Meghalaya’s Francis RR Songthiang was awarded the Best Karate Fighter of the 7th Zendokai National Karate Championship.
Francis was also awarded the 3rd Degree Black Belt Certificate in Zendokai Karate-Do by his examiner Dr. Moirangthem Ibomcha, who is a 7th Degree Black Belt in International Zendokai Karate Certificate.
