CRPF holds plantation drive

SHILLONG, July 9: CRPF personnel and officials came together for a plantation drive at Polo Grounds, Shillong, on Tuesday, pledging to continue efforts towards environmental sustainability.
Organised by the Unit Headquarters of the 67 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), this initiative is part of a broader effort to promote environmental stewardship and resilience against climate change.
According to a statement here, the programme was attended by Inspector General, North-Eastern Sector Headquarters Danesh Rana, along with Deputy Inspector General Imran Malik, Deputy Inspector General I. Lokendra Singh, and Commandant of the 67 Battalion, Sunil Kumar Savita.
Rana, during the programme, highlighted the critical role of tree plantation in combating climate change and enhancing the local ecosystem. He encouraged all personnel to participate actively in such initiatives and take personal responsibility for nurturing the environment.
In addition to the planting activities, Prof. Jayanta Mahajan of Christ University, Pune, conducted an enlightening awareness programme on climate change.
Prof. Mahajan’s session covered vital topics such as rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, extreme weather events, and the alarming loss of biodiversity.
“His insights underscored the urgent need for collective action to address these environmental challenges,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Sunil Kumar Savita expressed gratitude to Prof. Mahajan for his valuable insights and commended the personnel for their enthusiastic participation.
“This awareness programme is part of our ongoing commitment to educate and empower our personnel with the knowledge to address critical issues like climate change. We are dedicated to contributing to a sustainable future,” he said.
