SHILLONG, July 9: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Deputy CEM, Pynshngain N. Syiem, has assured that the Council is actively seeking a resolution to the controversy surrounding the June 24 notification that reclassified Majai as a Raid.
“We have discussed this matter in the Executive Committee (EC). We have decided to seek the views of the elders of the Hima Sohra on how to resolve this controversy,” Syiem told reporters after the EC meeting on Tuesday.
Emphasising that the EC is committed to finding a solution that will be acceptable to all parties involved, Syiem informed that the EC is not only examining Hima Sohra’s demand to revoke the June 24 notification but will also keep the Hima Sohra updated on their progress.
It may be mentioned that the Hima Sohra had previously set a July 9 deadline to revoke the notification.
Terming the notification as a game plan of the KHADC, Syiem of Hima Sohra, Freeman Sing Syiem, had said, “We will not accept this notification since the decision to remove the word Raid was taken by Executive Dorbar. The residents of Sohra Syiemship have also opposed this notification.
