Shillong, July 11: Executive Member in charge of Council Building department, Rangkynsai Kharbuki, on Thursday informed that the construction of market complexes within the KHADC’s jurisdiction is progressing well.
Kharbuki was responding to HSPDP MDC from Mawkynrew, Martle Mukhim, who had sought to know from the Executive Committee (EC) of the Council about the status of various market complex projects undertaken by the KHADC.
During the Question Hour on the second day of the Summer Session of the KHADC, Mukhim also asked if the Council would be signing lease agreements with the concerned village dorbars to operate the market complexes.
Kharbuki clarified that the Council Building department does not sign agreements with village durbars. Informing that it is the Market department that handles the lease agreements, he said, “We only implement the project and then hand it over to the concerned department once completed.”
He also mentioned that the KHADC is working on market complexes in Laitlyngkot, Byrnihat, Mawryngkneng and Mawsynram. The sanctioned amounts for these projects are Rs 70 lakh for Mawryngkneng, Rs 30 lakh for Byrnihat, and Rs 25 lakh for Laitlyngkot.
In response to a supplementary question from Mukhim, KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem confirmed that the Council is currently focusing only on the market complex project in Mawsynram.
He also mentioned that proposals have been received to establish similar infrastructure in Diengpasoh, Wahlyngkhat, and Smit, but the EC has not yet decided on the funds for these projects.
Syiem further explained that a revenue-sharing model has been adopted, where the village dorbar and the Council will share the revenue generated from these market complexes. The exact percentage of revenue sharing is yet to be finalised.
