SHILLONG, July 11: The Executive Committee (EC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is oblivious to the total expenditure, which was incurred by the Tourism department for organising the Monolith Festival at the Khasi Heritage Village in Mawphlang earlier this year.
Responding to a query raised by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Titosstarwell Chyne during the Question Hour on the second day of the Summer Session of the KHADC, Executive Member in charge of Art and Culture department, Victor Rani, admitted he did not have details on the total spending by the Tourism department for the festival.
He also mentioned that the tender to hire a private event management firm for organising the event was handled by the Tourism department.
Rani further informed that the Art and Culture department had earmarked Rs 20 lakh for the Monolith Festival according to the budget estimate for 2023-2024.
However, the total expenditure from the KHADC’s funds was Rs 11.22 lakh, including Rs 3.60 lakh for payments to volunteers engaged during the festival.
