Music sensation Shakira made history on Sunday, July 14, as she delivered a mesmerizing halftime performance during the Copa America 2024 final match between Argentina and Colombia at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Making her debut at the oldest international soccer tournament, Shakira electrified the audience with a captivating medley of her classic and latest hits, reported Billboard.
Dressed in a striking metallic silver skirt and halter top, she kicked off her set with the iconic Hips Don’t Lie, setting the stadium alight with her infectious energy.
‘!Te Quiero, Colombia!’ she exclaimed during her performance, expressing her love for her homeland amidst cheers from the crowd.
Accompanied by a dynamic troupe of dancers, including both human performers and robotic counterparts, Shakira continued to enthral the audience with songs like Te Felicito,TQG, and Punteria, showcasing her unmatched prowess in both singing and dancing.
The halftime spectacle, presented by Verizon, featured elaborate 3D visuals of wolves and floating gems on the soccer field, according to Billboard.
This marked a significant moment for Copa America, introducing an extended halftime show akin to those seen at the Super Bowl, a first in the tournament’s history.
In anticipation of Shakira’s performance, Colombian artist Karol G opened the proceedings by performing the national anthem of Colombia, while Abel Pintos followed suit with Argentina’s national anthem.
Alejandro Dominguez, president of CONMEBOL, lauded Shakira’s impact, stating, “Shakira is an extraordinary South American star who has dazzled the entire world.
Her songs are sung and danced to in every corner of the planet, turning her art into a global phenomenon that crosses borders and is enjoyed by millions of people,” reported Billboard. (ANI)
