ASHAs file complaint against PHC official in EGH
TURA, July 16: ASHAs from Dobu PHC in East Garo Hills have filed a complaint to the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) against the Medical Supervisor of the said PHC for allegedly displaying abusive behavior and unprofessional conduct towards them as well as nurses under his supervision. The complaint was filed against one Nanda Marak on Monday. The workers accused Marak of using derogatory and profane language, publicly chiding and humiliating them, creating a toxic work environment, coercing them to resign from their positions and denying them their rightful benefits and privileges. “His behaviour is unacceptable, unprofessional and a clear violation of human rights and Indian Service Rules. The supervisor’s actions have caused significant emotional distress, mental trauma and a hostile work environment,” the workers said in their complaint. The workers demanded that the matter be investigated, immediate disciplinary against the official action be taken, and appropriate measures be placed to ensure safety and healthy work environment.

Discourse at city college invokes spirited youth participation
SHILLONG, July 16: A one-day inter-college discourse titled ‘Discourse on Viksit Bharat@2047’ engaged around 20 students from various colleges across Meghalaya in a thought-provoking and spirited dialogue on the role of youth in realising vision of a developed India. The event was organised by the Department of Education Post Graduate Section at Synod College, Shillong, on Tuesday. Additional District Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, R Wahlang, served as the chief guest and keynote speaker, while SBI Branch Manager of Lumdiengjri Branch, A Ranjan, was the special guest of the occasion. The discourse is part of the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth’ initiative, which aims to engage and empower the youth to contribute to the nation’s development by leveraging their talents, ideas, and energy. As many as 10 colleges participated in the discourse, with 18 speakers presenting their insights and ideas on Viksit Bharat. The participants’ meticulous research and presentations, coupled with the thought-provoking insights from the chief and special guests, enriched the event, creating an educational and engaging experience for all involved. Students elaborated on their vision of a developed India, emphasising the crucial role of youth in realising this vision by 2047, the 100th year of India’s independence. The event concluded with the felicitation of the students.

DC imposes ban on sale of loose petrol, diesel in Ri-Bhoi
NONGPOH, July 16: In the interest of public safety and security, sale of petrol, diesel, etc., in loose jerricans, bottles or any other container to the public by all the petrol pumps within Ri-Bhoi district has been prohibited through an order issued by the District Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023. Any person contravening this order will be liable for legal action under Section 223 of BNS 2023.
