Nongpoh, July 16: Bobby L Nongbet, the District Sports Officer of Ri Bhoi District, expressed immense joy as he announced the success of three schools from the district in the recently concluded State Level Subroto Cup 2024.
These schools have earned the prestigious opportunity to represent Meghalaya in the International Subroto Cup 2024, which will be held in New Delhi and Bangalore.
The schools representing the state are Mynken Higher Secondary School, Bhoirymbong, in the U-17 boys category; Christian Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh, in the U-17 girls category; and Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School, Nongjri, in the U-15 boys category.
Nongbet highlighted that this achievement marks the first time all three schools from Ri Bhoi have qualified for the International Subroto Cup, following the path set by East Khasi Hills District. He emphasized the ongoing preparations and travel arrangements for the teams, particularly noting that the U-17 girls team will begin their competition on September 5, 2024, the U-15 boys’ matches will start on August 28, 2024, and the U-17 boys’ matches will commence on September 11, 2024.
The International Subroto Cup 2024 will feature participation from schools across countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. Nongbet extended his best wishes to all three schools, hoping they achieve commendable victories in the tournament.Despite Ri Bhoi District lacking proper sports facilities akin to those in Shillong, Nongbet noted the significance of this achievement, even with inadequate resources. He urged the government to take swift action in developing proper sports fields in Ri Bhoi.
“It is time for Ri Bhoi District to have its own proper sports fields, which would greatly enhance the talents and skills of the district’s young athletes,” Nongbet stated.
Nongbet’s call for improved sports infrastructure underscores the district’s potential and the dedication of its young athletes. As the three schools prepare to compete on an international stage, their achievements serve as a testament to their hard work and resilience.
The success of these teams not only brings pride to Ri Bhoi District but also highlights the urgent need for better facilities to nurture and develop future talents. With the right support, Ri Bhoi could continue to shine brightly in the world of sports. This milestone for Ri Bhoi District is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved despite limited resources. The remarkable performances of Mynken Higher Secondary School, Christian Higher Secondary School, and Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School reflect the dedication and potential of young athletes in the region. As they head to New Delhi and Bangalore to compete, their journey is an inspiration, demonstrating that passion and perseverance can overcome challenges. The community eagerly awaits their success and hopes that this achievement will pave the way for greater investment in sports infrastructure, fostering a new generation of champions.
