SHILLONG, July 16: The second Information Technology Park being constructed at New Shillong Township has achieved a physical progress of 52%.
The financial progress of the project worth Rs 114 crore, including the mobilisation advance, was 57% as of July 16, officials said.
The total area of the second IT Park is about 40 acres and it will have some 3,000 seats.
The frames of the buildings in the park are expected to be completed by November this year and according to the request for proposal, the entire project is likely to be over by March-April 2025.
The first phase of the Shillong Technology Park was inaugurated in 2022. It is said that the first phase of the project led to the employment of 1,500 people.
Once completed, the IT Park is expected to provide an opportunity for the youths of Meghalaya to work within the state.
Many youths of the state and elsewhere in the Northeast generally throng urban centres such as Bengaluru, Pune, and Noida to take up IT-related jobs.
The Secretary of the Ministry of IT and Electronics visited the Shillong Technology Park some time ago and it is learnt that some big names in the KOP and BPO sector – MedusInd, 24.7ai, HDFC, and iMERIT – are operating from the first IT Park.
Officials said the IT sector promises to be the main sector in Meghalaya and the second tech park is being built on the strength of the first tech park in a bid to expand the digital footprint in the state.
