Local MLA lays base for devp projects worth Rs 16 crore in the constituency

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, July 20: The South Shillong Assembly constituency will soon have a municipal market offering 150 stalls as an avenue for employment generation.
Addressing a programme after laying the foundation for developmental projects worth Rs 16 crore in the constituency, local MLA Sanbor Shullai said these projects include the construction of the cultural complex of Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban for Rs 10 crore.
He said the cultural cum prayer hall is being constructed as the constituency has prayer halls for every community except the Seng Khasi.
Admitting that land acquisition for initiating developmental projects is a big challenge in the constituency and throughout the state, he said many projects are coming up in the Cantonment areas too.
Shullai said getting even an inch of land from the Defence authorities is a difficult task but he has been managing it through the direct approval of the BJP-led government at the Centre.
Referring to the recent protest by Bindas Syiem who wanted a better road in her constituency, Shullai said that on the contrary, the roads in his constituency are reaching the doors of the people.
The projects for which foundation was laid on Saturday include sanctions from DoNER scheme, PWD, SPA, and Urban Infrastructure Scheme from the Urban Affairs Department.
The other projects include construction of feeder road, aqueduct slab cover drains, approach roads, motorable roads, footpaths, and drains.
