Bollywood’s new heartthrob Triptii Dimri, who has turned out to be the “national crush” on internet post Animal success, is back on the silver screen with Bad Newz, where she starred alongside Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk. In the run up to the film’s release on July 19, Triptii speaks to the media at an event on the film, co-stars and her Bollywood journey so far… IBNS-TWFcorrespondent Souvik Ghosh writes
Q. How fun was it to shoot this film?
A. I have had a great time working on the film. It was really fun. It was genuinely like a family working together. We used to laugh and share a lot of jokes everyday on set. It was also special because Bad Newz is my first commercial Hindi film release. This also marks my maiden collaboration with Dharma Productions. It’s a great feeling. I would like to thank Anand sir (Anand Tiwari) and Karan sir (Karan Johar) specially for trusting me with this role and the film.
Q. How challenging is it to shoot a comedy film?
A. I have always heard that turning people emotional is easier than making them laugh. I had realised this on the set. Comedy for me is the most difficult genre. I had to work a lot to pull off this role. I have had a number of workshops with Anand sir in detail.
Q. How did you prepare for the role?
A. I did a lot of workshops with Anand sir. I needed the workshop because I come from a very different school of acting and I find the comedy genre difficult.
Q. How was working with Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk?
A. I couldn’t have asked for better co-actors. They are a kind of actors who work for the scene and not themselves. I have got a lot of support from both of them and that made it easier for me to pull off my work. They went out of their way to help me whenever I got stuck somewhere. So actually it was a blessing for me to have them in the film.
Q. How do you feel being called ‘national crush’ instead of being praised for your acting by the audience?
A. I have been lucky to receive love always, be it for my previous or recent works. I have always hoped to be in the audience’s chatter for my work and that’s exactly how things panned out for me. This motivates me as an actor to do better in life and work on my craft. I have been very fortunate in that way.
