SHILLONG, July 22: Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang expressed pride in the growing number of women joining the police force during the passing-out parade of the 43rd Batch Recruit Constables at the 1st MLP Battalion Armed Police Training Centre (ATPC) in Mawlai Mawiong on Monday.
The passing-out parade was led by HG Lyngdoh, Commandant of 1st Battalion MLP, Mawiong.
“It is with a great sense of gratitude and relief to see more representation for women in the police force,” DGP Nongrang stated. She highlighted that 50 per cent of the new recruits are women, a significant milestone for the Meghalaya Police.
Addressing the new constables, the DGP acknowledged the challenges they would face as they transition from training to active duty. “As you step out today, you will encounter situations very different from your training over the past 11 months,” she said. Nongrang praised the recruits for their transformation during the rigorous training programme, emphasising the importance of their roles in the force. “We are witnessing a new era in Meghalaya Police with the joining of 184 well-trained constables,” Nongrang remarked, noting that the recruits’ future actions would significantly impact their careers and the reputation of the Meghalaya police. She urged them to make choices that would bring glory to themselves, the police force, and the state.
She concluded her speech by encouraging the new constables to learn from their mistakes and continuously strive to become stronger and more formidable members of the police force.
Senior police officials who were present during the passing out parade include DP Marak Inspector General (Special Branch), CA Lyngwa, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Tactical Application Police), Davis Marak, IPS, DIG Eastern Range, Sylvester Nongtnger, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, and SPs of other districts.
