Police seize over 230 kg marijuana in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, July 24: Acting on credible information, police personnel from Umroi PIC, along with the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of Ri-Bhoi district, conducted a naka check at Lumdiengngan, Umroi NH-44, and intercepted two pickup vehicles transporting contraband marijuana.
Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, reported on Wednesday evening that one vehicle attempted to flee towards Bhoirymbong, while the other headed towards Umeit village.
After a hot pursuit, both vehicles were detained.
However, the driver and helper of the vehicle (TR 05/F-1909) managed to escape into a nearby jungle. The driver of the second vehicle (TR 04/D 1920), identified as 25-year-old Supan Chakma from Unakoti, West Tripura, was arrested.
During the vehicle inspection, police seized 45 packets of marijuana weighing approximately 236.89 kilograms, two pickup vehicles, and one mobile phone
Dhanoa stated that a case under the appropriate sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Umiam Police Station, and an investigation is ongoing to trace the forward and backward linkages of the contraband network.
