EJH programme raises awareness on prevention of hepatitis

KHLIEHRIAT, July 26: As part of the World Hepatitis Week 2024, the Office of the District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills, on Friday organised a programme, during which awareness was disseminated among the locals on the prevention of the disease.
The programme was organised at Lad Rymbai, East Jaintia Hills, and was attended by East Jaintia Hills District Immunisation Officer, Dr. NP Suchiang, Medical Officer in-charge of Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre, Khliehriat, Dr. J Nongtdu, several others.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Suchiang said the programme intended to educate people on the harmful effects of hepatitis and the ways and means to prevent its spread.
Dr Suchiang also highlighted the treatment centre for hepatitis made available in the district even as she enlightened the gathering on medication courses concerning Hepatitis B & C.
Meanwhile, Dr. J Nongtdu, in his address, dwelt at length on the ways and means in which hepatitis disease can enter the human body and highlighted the impact of the virus on the body, particularly the liver.
During the programme, it was informed by health officials that vaccination against hepatitis will be provided at the Opioid Substitution Therapy Centre, Khliehriat, on July 30.
