Man gets 20 yrs of RI for sexual assault of minors

SHILLONG, Aug 1: Special Judge (POCSO) Court in Nongstoin on Tuesday delivered a verdict in the sexual assault case involving two minor sisters, resulting in the conviction and sentencing of the accused, Basil Marngar, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with the imposition of a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence under the POCSO Act.
In default of payment, he will serve an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
The incident occurred on July 11, 2022, when the girls’ mother lodged an FIR accusing Marngar of the crime. The case was initially registered at Mawshynrut Police Station and later transferred to Nongstoin Women’s Police Station for investigation.
The case, registered at Mawshynrut Police Station under various sections of the POCSO Act, 2010, and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code, was investigated by Sub Inspector DP Nongbri of Nongstoin Women’s Police Station.
