Art competition promotes state’s cultural diversity
SHILLONG, Aug 2: In a bid to promote cultural diversity and natural beauty of Meghalaya, an art competition, thematised on ‘Meghalaya Together’ was organised here on Friday, which was participated by 39 students from 12 Shillong-based schools.
According to a statement here, the competition was organised by Meghalaya Together, a socio-cultural organisation, and was participated by students from Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, Mawprem Presbyterian Secondary School, Nepali Kanya Pathshala, High Wood, Christian Academy, Sunrise Academy, Shishu Mandir Secondary School, Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Arya Vidyalaya Secondary School, Sein Jaintia Secondary School, Madrasa Hemayatul Islam School, and Kendriya Vidyalaya.
It was informed that the winners of the competition will be felicitated during a programme, which will be organised on August 24. Participants of the competition will also be provided certificates on the occasion.
BSF ADG arrives in M’laya, to review security scenario
SHILLONG, Aug 2: Additional Director General (Eastern Command) of the Border Security Force (BSF), Ravi Gandhi, arrived in Meghalaya on Friday to review the current security scenario and discuss various operational and administrative aspects of border management.
According to a statement here, Gandhi, who is on a four-day visit, was welcomed by BSF Meghalaya Inspector General Harbax Singh Dhillon, along with other senior officers, upon his arrival.
On the first day, Dhillon briefed Gandhi on the general security situation along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, and highlighted the unique challenges faced along the international border and the measures implemented to counter them effectively.
It may be mentioned that Gandhi, accompanied by Dhillon, will visit the border outposts along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
During this visit, they will interact with field commanders and jawans, assess the prevailing security situation, and review the current operational preparedness to ensure the international border is crime-free.
BSF, cops foil cattle smuggling bid in WGH
TURA, Aug 2: In another crackdown against cattle smuggling in West Garo Hills, vigilant troops of BSF and the police rescued 69 cattle loaded in four vehicles and apprehended six Indian nationals at the international border in Dalu, recently.
According to a statement issued here, the 100 Bn BSF Meghalaya, in a joint operation with the Meghalaya police, rescued the cattle from the bordering area meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh. During the operation, six Indian nationals involved in cattle smuggling were also apprehended. The seized cattle and apprehended persons were handed to the police for further legal action.
Villagers blame MeECL for power outage
TURA, Aug 2: The villagers of Khaldang Agitchak in North Garo Hills blamed the MeECL for alleged negligence after no move was made by the corporation to restore power to the village after a transformer malfunctioned about a week ago.
Angry residents demanded the installation of a new transformer immediately.
“No one from the corporation has come to inquire about the problem. Our entire village is in darkness. There is no move to restore power supply even after the passing of one week,” the residents said in a statement on Friday.
Pointing out that school students and those using online platforms for various works are affected by the power disruption, the residents demanded the corporation restore the electricity in the village soon.
