TURA, Aug 4: BJP leader and Tura MDC Bernard Marak has filed an FIR against a contractor from Tura for allegedly cheating the villagers and providing a false report to the Centre on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project with regard to augmentation of Jebalgre, which was awarded to the contractor by the PHE department in 2022.
The FIR was filed with the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, on Sunday.
According to the Tura MDC, the JJM work was allotted to one Aiok M Sangma, who, without doing the work, submitted a false report of 60% work being completed whereas villages under this project, namely Jebalgre, Dikkimpara, Dopogre, Dosagre were deprived of water supply.
“The contractor neglected his duty instead claimed that Jebalgre had 100% pipe water connection, but in reality there was nothing in progress. Aiok M Sangma, also ignored the calls made by the PHE department to speed up the work and complete the work in time. The villages which fell under augmentation of Jebalgre WSS were deprived of potable safe water supply due to the negligence of the contractor,” Bernard said, in the FIR.
Pointing out that Marak not only cheated the villagers but also the centre government by submitting a false report, Bernard demanded that Marak be brought to book and a case registered under appropriate sections of law.
Meanwhile, the BJP leader said that more FIRs against those who submitted false reports would be filed in the days to come.
