Panel to discuss demands of SSA non-teaching staff today

SHILLONG, Aug 11: The Rationalisation Committee set up by the government to examine the proposal for enhancement and rationalisation of the salaries of all the Samagra Shiksha (Non-Academic) staff in the state will hold another meeting on Monday.
The government had approved the constitution of the 20-member committee to be headed by Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri.
A member of the All Meghalaya SSA Non Teaching Staff Association (AMSSANTSA) on Sunday said the committee already had several rounds of meeting to discuss their demands.
According to the member, they had a meeting with Mantri on Friday.
“We are hopeful of a clearer picture on the government’s stand on our demands during after the meeting on Monday,” the member said, making it clear that they would continue with their sit-in at Madan Malki ground till their demands are met.
Meanwhile, Law Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Sunday said she will speak with Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma and get an update on the demands of the SSA non-teaching staff.
Lyngdoh had met the agitating members of the AMSSANTSA at Malki ground on Saturday.
As many as 1,241 non-teaching SSA staff are staging an indefinite sit-in after rejecting the state government’s decision to enhance their salary by 25%. They are demanding an 80% salary enhancement plus 2% based on seniority and 5% annual increment.
