Panel demands cancellation of nursing recruitment results
TURA, Aug 12: The Garo Reservation Policy Coordination Committee (GRPCC) from Tura on Monday expressed resentment over fewer candidates being selected from the Garo Hills region for recruitment to the posts of staff nurses on a contractual basis recently by the Meghalaya Medical Services Recruitment Board (MMSRB), and demanded that the recruitment results of the same be cancelled. It may be noted that the selected staff nurses are to be engaged in the First Referral Unit and the Critical Care Unit for a period of 11 months and extended based on performance and need. “In the process of recruitment to 325 posts of staff nurses, it is observed from the results of the written examination held on 27/07/2024 as per Notice vide HSM/NS/18/2023/26193 dated the 31st July, 2024, that fewer number of posts i.e., out of the total 325 posts, only 113 were earmarked for Garo Hills Region and even lesser number of only 58 candidates were selected for the practical examination. The number of candidates belonging to Garo Community is only 45 out of 655 selected for the practical examination, and we can presume that after the results of this practical examination, the number of candidates for eventual recruitments will further be lesser,” the committee stated, adding it was a violation of the State Reservation Policy. According to the committee, selecting 45 candidates from Garo Hills for altogether 113 posts was a mockery to the community of the region. “The action of the Recruitment Board is unacceptable and condemnable as it is a gross violation of the State Reservation Policy, 1972. We are constrained to mention that there would always be some excuses to take away the quota of the candidates belonging to the Garo community by claiming ‘candidates were selected on merits’, ‘they did not score the minimum qualifying marks’, etc. These excuses should not be there while recruitments are made in accordance with the State Reservation Policy,” the committee said. The committee condemned as well as opposed the recruitment process, while demanding that the results of the written examination be cancelled and the whole process of recruitment be reviewed and rectified at the earliest by the MMSRB.

SSA teachers seek salary release
TURA, Aug 12: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association from Tura has sought the release of their salaries for the month of July 2024. In a memorandum, the SSA teachers said, “Our one-month salary order has already been sanctioned from the SPD office SEMAM, Shillong, to all the districts of Meghalaya a half month back. However, despite the official order from the office, our salary has not been transferred till date to our personal bank accounts due to the ongoing indefinite agitation of non-teaching staff of SSA in Shillong, Meghalaya.” Pointing out that the SSA teachers are faced with difficulties due to the situation, the teachers urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to look into the matter and ensure the release of salaries at the earliest.
