West Jaintia, Nongstoin tighten grip on respective groups

Shillong, Aug 18: West Jaintia District Sports Association and Nongstoin District Sports Association tightened their grips on their respective groups in the Meghalaya Youth League 2024 in the fifth round of action on Saturday.
In Zone B, West Jaintia beat Saipung Block Sports Association in both the U-14 (9-0) and U-16 (2-0) matches, with Kaisarmi Dkhar scoring a hat-trick in the first game, which was his second of the tournament.
Having won all their matches in both age categories, West Jaintia are leading with 12 points in each.
Amlarem Block Sports Association maintained second place in both age groups by beating East Jaintia District Football Association 7-0 in the U-14s and 2-0 in the U-16s.
In Zone D, Nongstoin defeated Tyrsad Area Sports Association 5-0 in the U-14s and 5-2 in the U-16s. Before today, Pyndengumiong District Sports Association were leading the U-14 category but foggy weather forced a cancellation of their match against Eastern Border Sports Association and the two teams were awarded a point each.
As it stands, Nongstoin now have 12 points and Pyndengumiong 11. The other match in this group’s U-14 category saw Mawkyrwat District Sports Association hand Mawshynrut Sports Association a 7-0 defeat.
However, in the U-16s, Mawshynrut reversed the result and won 5-0 against Mawkyrwat.
The Eastern Border and Pyngdengumiong U-16 teams were able to play their match and this ended in a 1-1 draw.
Nongstoin lead this age category with 13 points, with Mawshynrut second on 8.
In Zone A, District Sports Association North Garo Hills drew 0-0 with Baghmara District Football Association for the latter’s first point in the U-14 category.
In the U-16 category, Williamnagar District Sports Association were 4-2 winners against Tura District Football Association. North Garo Hills lead with 7 points in the U-14s, while Williamnagar are well and truly in charge of the U-16s with 7 as well.
Finally, in Zone C, Shillong Sports Association won both of their matches on the road against Riwar Mihngi Football Association, with each ending 5-0 in Shillong’s favour.
In the U-16 age group, Sohra Sports Association, which had had two previous games washed out as hosts, were finally able to take to the field against Western Ri-Bhoi Sports Association but lost 4-0.
Shillong are second in both age groups with 3 points in the U-14s and 6 in the U-16s, behind Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association (7 and 10 points respectively), who were not in action on Saturday.
