SHILLONG, Aug 19: Members of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Monday held a sit-in-protest at Malki ground demanding an end to interviewing candidates for group B, C, and D posts.
The protest to pressure the National People’s Party-led MDA 2.0 government started at 10 a.m. and concluded at 5 p.m. The demand is in line with the policy of the central government and 23 other states in the country, the KHNAM said.
Thomas Passah, the party’s working president said they raised this issue during the term of the first MDA government. “We have also submitted several representations to the state government to impress upon the need to do away with the personal interview for the three categories of posts for transparency in the recruitment process,” he said.
He said doing away with interviews will let the deserving candidates get the jobs as their selection will be based on the written examination.
According to Passah, appointing deserving candidates will help improve the overall functioning of the government departments.
He, however, said that the government has yet to respond to the party’s constant demand. “Both the MDA and the present MDA 2.0 governments have remained adamant to our genuine demand, which is unfortunate,” he said.
Asserting that KHNAM will continue to pressure the state government, he said backdoor lobbying, favouritism, and bribery will exist if the personal interview is part and parcel of the recruitment process to fill the vacant posts in various government departments.
The KHNAM working president also said that interviews open up avenues for corrupt ways of employment.
