SHILLONG, Aug 21: The Ri-Bhoi district administration has cautioned the public advising them to exercise caution as the water level at Umiam dam has reached 3209.68 feet as of Wednesday.
In a statement, the office of the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner indicated that water from the dam may need to be released at any time if heavy rainfall occurs in the coming days.
Residents living downstream of the Umiam dam have been urged to be extra vigilant and to avoid venturing into rivers, streams, or any water bodies to prevent any unfortunate incidents, especially during and after heavy rainfall.
In the event of flooding, the authorities have advised public to maintain a safe distance from electric poles and power lines to avoid the risk of electrocution.
