Meghalaya enter sub-junior Subroto Cup quarterfinals

Shillong, Aug 23: Meghalaya’s U-15 football team has secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the 63rd Subroto Cup Sub-Junior Boys International Football Tournament after a resounding 8-0 victory over Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in Bangalore on Friday.
The impressive win caps off a perfect group stage for Meghalaya, who also defeated Sri Lanka 6-0 and ISSO 7-0 in earlier matches.
Notably, Meghalaya’s Chanjib Chetry continued his stellar performance with a hat-trick, bringing his total to 10 goals in the tournament. Contributions also came from Namebanlam Nongkseh, Samuel Malieh, Mark R Marak, Iainehskhem Warjri, and Iaisynroplang Syiemlieh, each adding a goal to the tally.
Represented by Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School of Ri-Bhoi, which clinched the state-level Subroto Cup last month, Meghalaya will face Army Boys Company in the quarterfinals scheduled for 7 AM on Sunday. The completion of the quarterfinal lineup also sees Mother’s Pride Public School from Himachal Pradesh advancing.The quarterfinals will feature eight teams: Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School, Meghalaya; Mother’s Pride Public School, Himachal Pradesh; Infocus India Public School; St. Stephen’s, Chandigarh; Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan; Major Dhyan Chand Sports College, Uttar Pradesh; Manikpara Vivekananda Vidyapeeth, West Bengal; and Army Boys Sports Company, Bengaluru. Matches are set to take place on Sunday, August 25th, at the Army Service Corps Centre.
In other matches of the day, Tashi Namgyal Academy, Sikkim, ended their tournament with a 2-0 win over Army Public School, New Delhi, while Ebenezer High School, Tripura, defeated Indira Modern High School, Haryana, 3-1.
