Noted activist & lawyer dies in Jaintia Hills road mishap

Shillong/Jowai, Aug 23: Prominent social activist and noted lawyer from East Jaintia Hills, Kynjaimon Amse was killed in a tragic road accident at Khliehriat shortly after midnight on Friday.
Three others occupants of the vehicle sustained severe injuries and were admitted to Khliehriat Civil Hospital.
Police informed that their vehicle rammed into a retaining wall near a petrol pump at Dkhiah village.
According to police, the activist was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the hospital.
His body was taken to his home at Umkiang. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at the Holy Cross Parish in the village.
Amse was known to be a vocal activist, having raked up issues concerning the people, especially the border residents.
He was responsible for filing a PIL in the Meghalaya High Court on the deplorable condition of National Highway 6, following which the NHAI has begun repair work.
Recently, Amse had lodged a complaint against the JHADC for issuing NOC to Meghatop Cement Private Limited for setting up a factory without the consent of Dorbar Elaka Narpuh.
He had also demanded that the government should construct roads in border villages like Huroi, Hingaria and others.
