Nongpoh, Aug 23: The Kick Boxing Association of Ri Bhoi District (KBARBD), under the aegis of the Meghalaya Martial Arts Federation (MMAF), kicked off the 10th District Level Ri Bhoi Kick Boxing Championship, 2024, on Friday at Niangbari Lum in Ri Bhoi District.
The two-day event was inaugurated by Balajied Rani, the MDC of Nongpoh constituency, in the presence of Thomas Rangthaluh, President of MMAF, and local Headman Elfast Shadap, among other dignitaries.
The championship saw enthusiastic participation from over 63 athletes, including young men, women, and children in the junior category.
This event serves as a platform for these athletes to demonstrate their skills, with a chance to be selected for higher-level competitions.
In his address, Thomas Rangthaluh voiced his disappointment over the lack of adequate sports facilities and equipment, despite the championship being held for the tenth time in the District.
He urged government authorities and elected representatives to take immediate steps to provide the necessary infrastructure and resources to nurture young talent in the District and across the state.
The championship not only highlighted the talent and determination of the athletes but also underscored the pressing need for better support and infrastructure to foster the growth of kickboxing in Ri Bhoi District and beyond.
