SHILLONG, Aug 25: Former NPP MLA from Nongstoin, Macmillan Byrsat said that the party decision to welcome three former Congress MLAs was needed for the stability of the NPP-led 2.0 Government.
Byrsat, who is also the president of NPP Nongstoin Block, said that the party leadership has taken the block into confidence on the joining of former Congress MLA, Gabriel Wahlang to the party.
While rubbishing reports about unhappiness among the party leaders and members of the block, Byrsat said that the party has kept everyone on the loop.
The NPP Nongstoin Block president informed that he had attended a meeting on the day when the three former Congress MLAs had joined which was held in the residence of state party president, Prestone Tynsong in the presence of party working president, Hamleston Dohling and other party leaders.
When asked if the joining of Wahlang would affect his political prospect of getting a party ticket in 2028, Byrsat said that he does not think that the party will give a ticket only because you are sitting MLA.
He reminded that three of the sitting NPP MLAs from Garo Hills were denied tickets in the 2023 Assembly polls.  According to him, he is sure that the party leadership will look at other factors including the winnability factor before deciding on the allotment of the party ticket.
The former NPP MLA was quick to say that it is too early to talk about the party ticket since there is still time for the next Assembly polls.
Earlier, Tynsong had stated that he will soon be convening a meeting of the party members in Umsning, Mawhati and Nongstoiñ following the joining of the former Congress MLAs including Celestine Lyngdoh, Charles Marngar besides Wahlang
The State NPP working president had said that after the Assembly session he would hold separate meetings with NPP members at Umsning, Mawhati and Nongstoiñ in the presence of the three former Congress MLAs.
Tynsong is making efforts to convince the original NPP leaders of the three constituencies to closely work together with the three MLAs who had recently joined the party.
