Madan SCC clinch SSA 4th Division title

Shillong, Aug 25: In a thrilling conclusion to the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024, Madan SCC emerged victorious, narrowly defeating Umrynjah SC 2-1 in a hard-fought final held at First Ground, Polo, on Saturday.
Madan SCC’s Jason T Malsamtluanga broke the deadlock just before halftime, netting the opening goal in the 41st minute. His well-timed strike gave Madan SCC a crucial advantage heading into the break. The momentum continued to swing in Madan SCC’s favor early in the second half when Phermanbha Lyngdoh doubled the lead with a goal in the 48th minute, putting Umrynjah SC under immense pressure.
Despite trailing by two goals, Umrynjah SC refused to back down. Their persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when Samborlang Jyrwa found the back of the net, giving his team a lifeline. With around half an hour left to play, Umrynjah SC pushed forward relentlessly in search of an equalizer. However, Madan SCC’s defense held firm, successfully repelling the late surge and preserving their lead until the final whistle.The victory was met with jubilation from Madan SCC’s players, staff, and supporters. The win not only secured the team the SSA 4th Division trophy but also a cheque for Rs 60,000, a reward for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, the runners-up, Umrynjah SC, were awarded Rs 30,000 for their commendable effort.The final was attended by several SSA officials, including the association’s President, Banteidor Lyngdoh, who presented the trophy and cheques to the winners and runners-up. The presence of top officials underscored the significance of the match and the importance of promoting grassroots football in the region.Looking ahead, the SSA’s football calendar continues with the ongoing Third Division matches. On Tuesday, Nongmensong SC will face off against Pomlakrai SC in a Group A encounter at 12:45 PM, followed by a Group B clash between Lumparing SC and Mawpat SC at 3:45 PM.
