New sub-station in Mawkynrew to address power woes

SHILLONG, Aug 25: Frequent power failure in many of the villages under Mawkynrew constituency, especially during the rainy season, is expected to be resolved once the 33 KV sub-station at Umtong village is installed.
Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal visited the site of the sub-station along with local MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh recently.
During the visit, the minister found that the installation of the 33 KV sub-station is almost completed.
Many of the villages under the constituency will benefit from this sub-station since it will ensure interrupted supply of power.
As of now, majority of the villages under Mawkynrew is getting supplied with power through the sub-station at Jongksha. But there has been power outage for many days since the sub-station at Jongksha can no longer take the load.
While speaking to reporters, Mondal said that the sub-station will be made functional very soon. “I am confident that it will resolve the problem of frequent power failure,” Mondal said.
He lauded the local MLA and the traditional heads of the area for working together to see that there is no disruption in the work for installation of the sub-station.
The Power minister also assured that he will take up manpower upgrade with the Finance department to operate the upcoming sub-station for the benefit of the people of Mawkynrew constituency and its adjoining areas.
Mondal, who is also the Minister in-charge of Community and Rural Development (C&RD), also inspected the construction of the new office building of the Mawkynrew C&RD Block office.
