Tura, Aug 27: Rangsakona MLA from the NPP, Subir Marak, is once again in the eye of the storm after he claimed during an early election meeting for the Gambegre constituency that he had ensured jobs were provided by him to people in teaching positions — something that does not fall under his job profile.
Social activist Cherian Momin has slammed the Rangsakona MLA after a viral video, widely circulated, showed Marak boasting about his role in selecting candidates for teaching positions.
“On the surface, such appointments might be seen as commendable. However, closer examination reveals a disturbing pattern of favoritism and corruption that undermines the very principles of meritocracy and transparency. His actions have brought to light two critical issues: first, the question of authority, and secondly, the secrecy surrounding these appointments,” said Cherian through a press communiqué.
“Who gave him the authority to make such appointments? This is a very disturbing case where an elected representative appears to be leveraging his position for personal and partisan gain. This is a solid example of the overreach of power,” the activist observed.
Cherian expressed legitimate concerns over fairness and transparency in Marak’s statements.
“Were the appointments based on merit, or were they distributed to individuals with personal connections or political affiliations? The latter scenario would not only compromise the quality of education but also betray the trust of those who have been diligently preparing for these opportunities,” he added.
In the viral video, Marak claimed to have provided teaching jobs to 25 people and later to another 28 more.
“This is not merely an administrative lapse; it is a direct assault on the integrity of our educational system and, by extension, our future. It threatens to undermine the quality of education that our children receive. Appointments made without regard to merit or transparency place unqualified individuals in positions of influence over our students, jeopardizing their educational outcomes and future prospects. The real victims here are the students—the innocent recipients of a compromised educational system,” asserted Momin.
He further added that the scandalous statement has broader implications of political corruption and misuse of power.
“It exposes the vulnerability of our institutions to manipulation by those in positions of authority, raising questions about the effectiveness of oversight mechanisms designed to prevent such abuses. His actions must be challenged, and a comprehensive investigation into the appointments is necessary to restore our faith in institutions that too easily become prone to such arm-twisting,” stated the activist.
The activist urged everyone to come forward in unity to demand a thorough probe into the claims made by the Rangsakona MLA.
“By coming together and demanding a thorough investigation, we can take a stand against corruption and ensure that our educational system—and our democracy—remain intact and untainted by political manipulation,” concluded Momin.
