Sixth Schedule amendment: ADCs of NE to meet Union min

SHILLONG, Aug 28: KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Wednesday said a delegation of the ten autonomous district councils (ADCs) of the Northeast is likely to visit Delhi next week to meet Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.
The Union government had formed a committee headed by Rai to resolve the issues that have been holding up the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019 intended to grant more financial, executive and administrative powers to tribal autonomous councils under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
“We will follow up with the Union MoS to know how far the committee has been able to progress on resolving the issues with regards to the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019,” Syiem said.
He also informed that the ten ADCs have already submitted their views and suggestions to the committee.
