Vehicle runs over man on NH-6

NONGPOH, Aug 28: In a horrific incident on Wednesday evening, a man sustained severe injuries to his leg after being run over by a pick-up truck bearing registration number ML 13 A 1479. The incident took place on National Highway 6, opposite the Sericulture office at Mawdiangum in Ri-Bhoi.
According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle, which was reportedly transporting vegetables at high speed, first struck the man identified as Coldman Kharbithai from Mawpdang village as he was crossing the highway. Witnesses reported that upon being hit, the man was flung a considerable distance. The pick-up truck then ran over his leg, causing multiple fractures and severe damage before fleeing the scene.
Eyewitnesses immediately gave chase to the vehicle and managed to locate it near Nongpoh police station within minutes. However, the driver had already abandoned the truck and fled, leaving the vehicle at the junction of the service lane of National Highway 6 leading to Nongpoh PS.
The Nongpoh police arrived promptly at the scene and rushed the severely injured man to Civil Hospital Nongpoh for urgent medical treatment. In this connection, the police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify and apprehend the driver who fled the scene following the incident.
