SHILLONG, Aug 29: The state government has officially dissolved the Meghalaya State Housing Board with immediate effect.
A notification issued by the Secretary to the Housing Department on Wednesday said that in exercise of the powers conferred under the provision of subsection (1) of Section 50 of the Meghalaya State Housing Board Act, 1986 and in the interest of public services, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to dissolve the Meghalaya State Housing Board with immediate effect.
A programme was recently organised by the Directorate of Housing on the premises of the Meghalaya State Housing Board at Madan Laban to mark the closure of the board.
Last month, the State government had approved the dissolution of the board and decided to offer voluntary retirement scheme to the 18 staff of the independent body.
The board was created in the 1980s to help citizens avail housing loans from various companies.
