Shillong, Aug 30: A delegation including KHADC CEM, Deputy CEM, and other executive members called on Governor C H Vijayashankar at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
The delegation appreciated the governor and officially welcomed him to the state. The governor praised Meghalaya’s stunning natural beauty and favourable climatic conditions.
He emphasized several key areas of interest and highlighted the importance of improving educational standards. Expressing concern over the issue of drug abuse, he discussed strategies to combat it effectively.
Vijayashankar stressed the need for robust measures to safeguard the region’s rich biodiversity. Further, he encouraged the planting of native species to support ecological balance and underscored the critical importance of conserving water resources for sustainable development. The CEM and other members briefed the governor on the Khasi society’s traditional institutions, including the Village Darbar and the Ilaka Institution Council, detailing their roles and responsibilities.
They outlined various initiatives taken by KHADC aimed at preserving cultural heritage, conserving the environment, and promoting societal welfare.
The governor accepted their invitation to visit the sacred groves and the traditional Khasi village of Mawphlang and has scheduled the visit for September 3. Meanwhile, Governor C H Vijayashankar assured all possible assistance to support disability management efforts in Meghalaya.
Members of the Meghalaya Parents Association of Disabled, Shillong on Friday called on the governor and discussed the current status of disability management in the state, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by persons with disabilities and their families. They discussed the urgent need for enhanced support and infrastructure to improve the quality of life for this vulnerable section of society.
