SHILLONG, Sep 1: The abnormally-delayed Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme Phase III has now got a revised completion deadline of March next year.
Announcing the new deadline, PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak listed key factors that contributed to the delay in completion of the project. He identified resource constraints, lack of inter-departmental coordination, delay in obtaining permission for laying of pipelines from PWD & NHIDCL and delay in laying of distribution pipes due to objections from PWD, delay in receipt of forest clearances, delay by the Ministry of Defence and problems in obtaining NOC from Hima Mawphlang as the contributing factors.
On the current status of the New Shillong Water Supply Scheme Phase-I, he said the government sanctioned Rs 538.44 crore on March 15 and the work has been allotted.
The remaining amount of Rs 1,111 crore will be sanctioned for Phase II at a later stage, he added.
