Shillong, Sep 1: The top teams in the Meghalaya Youth League 2024 largely continued on their merry way with victories on Matchday 7 on Saturday.
Chief among them were West Jaintia District Sports Association in Zone B, which won their U-14 category match against East Jaintia District Football Association 9-0, led by a hat-trick from Kaisarmi Dkhar. However, there was a hint of an upset in the U-16 category when East Jaintia held West Jaintia to a 2-2 draw.
West Jaintia still lead both age groups with 15 points in the U-14s and 13 in the U-16s. Second-placed Amlarem Block Sports Association were not involved this weekend.
The other games in this zone saw Laskein Block Sports Association and Saipung Block Sports Association split points in the U-14 category after a goalless draw before Saipung defeated Laskein 3-0 in the U-16s. There was just one match in Zone A, the last of the U-16 group stage where leaders Williamnagar District Sports Association blanked North Garo Hills District Sports Association 3-0. This gives Williamnagar 10 points to NGH’s 5.
In Zone C, Shillong Sports Association travelled to Sohra Sports Association and won 4-0 (U-14) and 8-0 (U-16) on a terrific day for them. Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association were not in action this weekend but continue to lead the standings against Shillong by 1 point in both categories.
Zone D was characteristically competitive, with only one match being one-sided where Eastern Border Sports Association won handsomely 6-0 against Mawshynrut Sports Association in the U-16 age group.
A 1-0 for Pyndengumiong District Sports Association at the hands of Tyrsad Area Sports Association saw both Eastern Border and Tyrsad leapfrog Pyndengumiong in the points table.
The other U-16 match was a 1-1 draw for leaders Nongstoin District Sports Association against Mawkyrwat District Sports Association. These two sides also drew by the same scoreline in the U-14 category.
Leaders Pyndengumiong beat Tyrsad Area 2-0 and Eastern Border edged Mawshynrut 1-0 in the other two U-14 fixtures.
