TURA, Sep 5: The deplorable condition of a school in North Garo Hills on Thursday came to the fore after local people as well as members of the school managing committee raised the issue, with the hope that something would be done by concerned authorities to rectify the issue.
The school in question is the Dopanggal Non-Government LP School at Adokgre under Kharkutta constituency in North Garo Hills. Videos of the school that were taken and submitted to the media showed missing roofs, broken windows and termite eaten doors that were about to fall off.
The school currently caters to around 40 students from the area.
President of the school Albert Momin said that the education of the students have been badly affected as their classes cannot be taken whenever there is rain. He appealed to concerned authorities to look into the matter so that the children can have a proper education.
Meanwhile, the village sordar informed that repeated verbal and written complaints failed to evoke a response either from the education department or local MLA Rupert Momin.
“The President of the school has approached the MLA as well as the department several times to get some assistance. However, there has been no action till today,” he said, while appealing for help.
