Women’s group opens two libraries
SHILLONG, Sep 6: The Akhil Bhartiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan, Meghalaya Prant inaugurated two libraries on Teacher’s Day.
The first library, nestled within the Hindu Mission School, is dedicated to school education, while the other located at the Parth Sarthi Mandir, focuses on religious scriptures and texts.
The school library, a treasure trove of academic and extracurricular resources, aims to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience. Shelves stacked with books on various subjects, including science, literature, and history, the library is poised to become a hub of knowledge and exploration.
The religious library, on the other hand, is a sanctuary for spiritual seekers and scholars alike. Housing a vast collection of scriptures, texts, and philosophical works, the library seeks to promote religious awareness and understanding.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Marwari community, supporters of the Sammelan, students, and devotees.
The president of Akhil Bhartiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan, Meghalaya Prant expressed gratitude to the members for their dedication and hard work.
“The role of a teacher in society is unparalleled and we are privileged to have the opportunity to honour them on this special day,” the president said.
The event was attended by several key members of the Marwari community and supporters of the Akhil Bhartiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan.
Traffic arrangements for church programme
Shillong, Sep 6: To ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the Jingiaseng Thung Synod Pdeng at Umpling (Windermere Estate Premises) from Sunday, the Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church has made a few arrangements in the areas to ease traffic.
According to the arrangement, all vehicles coming from Sawlad-Lapalang can proceed either from the main road Lai Lad Lapalang – Bishor Lummarboh – Dong Lumsurok Umpling and can park at the adjacent area near Hubert School, or can proceed to Windermere through the lower gate, or can proceed through the Nongrah main road-and park at Nongrah Football Ground or Windermere Estate parking area.
Vehicles coming from Rynjah-Umpling Bridge can proceed from Umpling Bridge either to Dong Lumsurok and park at the adjacent area near Hubert School or to Windermere through the lower gate or can proceed directly and park at the Umpling Football Ground Dong Shaneng.
Vehicles coming from Itshyrwat can park at Mawpram or Windermere
Further, heavy vehicles are to park at Umpling Football Ground, or Nongrah Football Ground.
All drivers are requested to cooperate with the traffic police, supervisor, and volunteers to avoid disruption.
Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church secretary, PS Dkhar informed that no entry will be imposed on all internal roads leading to Umpling Bridge from Dong Lumsurok from 8 a.m. till 3 p.m., from Maw Arling Dong Shaneng main road moving towards Lapalang area from 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. and from the junction near Youth Centre to the lower gate of Windermere Estate from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cultural, religious programmes held in city
SHILLONG, Sep 6: A series of cultural and religious programmes were organised by the Shrimanta Sankardev Cultural Centre, Lumshatsngi (Bishnupur), Shillong, as part of the observance of the 456th death anniversary of Shrimanta Sankardev and the 75th Anniversary of the cultural centre.
As part of the commemoration, the cultural centre hosted Dihanaam and Borgeet competitions on August 11, which were followed by drawing and essay-writing competitions for schoolchildren on August 17.
On September 1, the centre awarded prizes to the winners of different competitions during a Satriya Cultural Evening on September 1. A few notable artists were also felicitated on the occasion in recognition of their contributions to promoting Satriya culture.
On August 25, a religious discourse was held on the Naamghar premises, with prominent speakers from Assam addressing the gathering.
“On September 4, the day of Sankardev Tithi, a traditional Prabhat Pheri (early-morning devotional procession) was organised, involving singing, chanting, and playing instruments. This was followed by a day-long community prayer and a Bhaona (dramatic performance) in the evening, attended by various devotees,” a statement in this regard said.
Scheme for holding awareness progs in EJH
Khliehriat, Sep 6: All registered organisations of East Jaintia Hills can apply for the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme for organising various awareness programmes, and activities relating to the development of youths in the district, an official statement here informed on Friday.
Application forms will be available at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, East Jaintia Hills from September 10-20, and the last date for submission is September 30.
AHAM apprises CM of issues plaguing Dobu
TURA, Sep 6: The AHAM in East Garo Hills has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma urging him to look into various developmental works in the region. In the memorandum, the organisation sought the upgradation of the PHC at Dobu to a CHC.
They stated that the upgradation of the health center would allow the expansion of services and; introduction of new health care programmes as well as cater to the wide range of health issues. The AHAM also raise the issue of the non-functional veterinary office at Dobu. Pointing out that the facility has been lying unused since 2019, it urged the chief minister to look into the matter and ensure it is functional. The AHAM also demanded a full-fledged police station, an SBI branch in Dobu, and the construction of a mini stadium at Dobu Bazar Playground. Regarding road infrastructure, the organisation sought the inclusion of the road connecting Dobu-Rimding to Bolmoram under the PMGSY Scheme.
