SDRF retrieves 10-year-old’s body from Umiam River

SHILLONG, Sep 7: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Saturday recovered the body of a 10-year-old boy, who had drowned in the Umiam River at Nonglum Mawiong village, Ri-Bhoi.
Following the receipt of information and a request from the Ri-Bhoi Police, the East Khasi Hills district authority activated the SDRF late Friday night.
Led by Inspector Transly Tynsong, the SDRF team began their search operation at the site at 10:30 am on Saturday.
The body of the boy, identified as Biki Makri, was retrieved at approximately 10:45 am, following which the same was handed over to the police and then to the family.
He was the son of Jantilin Makri and a resident of Nonglum Mawiong village.
