SHILLONG, Sep 10: Cabinet minister and BJP senior leader, AL Hek on Tuesday said the saffron party will contest the upcoming Gambegre bye-election and is on the lookout for the most eligible candidate to represent the party.
Mentioning that some potential candidates have already expressed their intent to contest the Gambegre bypoll, he said the party will conduct a survey and select the most eligible candidate from among them.
State BJP vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak was one of the first from the party to express his desire to contest from the seat.
Hek said the party held a meeting in Tura recently where all the party members from Gambegre constituency expressed their firm desire to contest the bypoll.
He said the party discussed poll-related matters and chalked out a roadmap for the election.
When it was pointed out that the Gambegre bypoll promises to be a heated contest since Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s wife, Mehtab Chandee had entered the fray, Hek said, “I don’t know much about the constituency but we will contest to win.”
