Shillong, Sep 14: The Meghalaya AG Office emerged victorious in the inaugural Big FM Big Futsal Fest, a thrilling inter-office tournament held in Shillong.
Defeating the Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards 6-1 in the final, the AG Office showcased their dominance throughout the competition.
Despite a valiant effort from the Home Guards, who had displayed impressive skills throughout the tournament, the AG Office’s superior experience, including former I-League and Shillong Premier League players, proved too much to handle.
Sheen Sohktung and Restomwell Khriam each netted two goals for the champions, while Fivestar Shylla, the tournament’s leading scorer with 17 goals, managed to find the net for the Home Guards but couldn’t prevent his team’s defeat. The day began with an exhibition match between the employees of Rani Motors and students of MIMHANS, setting a celebratory tone for the final.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Fivestar Shylla was awarded the Golden Boot for top scorer, Sheen Sohktung received the Golden Ball for best player, and Kitbok Nongrum of MIMHANS was honored with the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper. Former Indian international Aiborlang Khongjee presented the winners’ trophy to the AG Office, who celebrated their triumph in a moment of glory and honour. The tournament not only showcased exceptional talent but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
