KHLIEHRIAT, Sep 17: The FKJGP East Jaintia Hills Circle on Tuesday met the district police chief to register a complaint against a Sub-Inspector, whose name the FKGJP did not disclose, for not accepting an FIR lodged with Ladrymbai Police Outpost over a theft incident, which was written in Khasi.
In the meeting with the Superintendent of Police, the FKJGP was told that there is no such requirement to write the FIR only in English. The SP said that the FIR can be written in Khasi, Pnar, Garo or Hindi, and it is the duty of the police to translate the FIR into English.
On the other hand, the union lauded the SP of East Jaintia Hills for his concern over the problems concerning the people. The FKJGP remarked that there are many who do not know or understand English language and the people are more comfortable writing in Khasi as it is their mother tongue.
