BSF prevents smuggling bids, makes seizure of over Rs 16 lakh

SHILLONG, Sep 18: BSF troops on Tuesday made seizures worth more than Rs 16 lakh during different operations conducted along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
According to a statement here, the BSF troops had confiscated cattle and other contraband items that were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh through the international border of Meghalaya.
“Acting on specific information, BSF troops of 193 Bn BSF Meghalaya seized a huge quantity of eatable and contraband items along the Indo-Bangladesh border of East Khasi Hills district. The confiscated items were handed over to the concerned customs office for further necessary legal action.
In another operation, BSF troops of 4th Bn BSF rescued 12 buffaloes from the border area of BOP Hawaitila, while being smuggled to Bangladesh,” the statement said. The BSF troops also foiled a smuggling bid and seized a large quantity of clothing items.
