Meghalaya to host 1st women’s inter-state cricket tournament

Shillong, Sep 20: In what will be a welcome boost to women’s cricket, the Meghalaya Cricket Association will host the 1st Senior Women’s Interstate Friendship Tournament, held under the auspices of the North East Cricket Development Council, at Nongkhrah in Ri-Bhoi, from September 30, 2024.
The T20 tournament will feature the six NECDC states – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim. Meanwhile, the Nagaland Cricket Association will host the 2nd Senior Men’s Interstate Friendship Tournament, which will be played in a 50 overs one day format.
The NECDC is a body for coordinating all activities relating to the development of cricket in the six states in a united manner.
NECDC Founder Co-Convenor Nababrata Bhattacharjee (who is also the MCA President) informed today that the men’s tournament will run from September 23 to 28 and be played at two venues – the Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground.
The inaugural women’s tournament will be held at the newly established ground of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, at Pahamsning, Nongkhrah, in Ri-Bhoi district from September 30 to October 4.
Both tournaments are aimed at providing match preparation for all the teams before the commencement of the BCCI 2024-25 domestic tournaments, starting from October.In the men’s tournament, Nagaland, Sikkim and Mizoram have been placed in Group A, while Group B comprises Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. In the women’s category, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are in Group A, while Nagaland, Mizoram and Sikkim are placed in Group B.
