SHILLONG, Sep 21: In a significant drug bust, Ri-Bhoi Police seized ganja weighing 9 kg, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakhs, from a truck in Nongpoh on Friday.
The truck (NL02N2630), en route Guwahati, was intercepted around 10 pm and was subsequently searched by the officers during which a concealed compartment holding the ganja was uncovered.
The driver, 24-year-old Geramsha Bro from Myrangare, Tezpur, was immediately arrested.
Meanwhile, Officer-In-Charge of Nongpoh Police Station, MR Marak, confirmed the seizure and revealed that an investigation is under way to trace the source of the ganja and identify its intended recipients.
Preliminary findings suggest the ganja was sourced from a neighboring state and was being transported to Guwahati for distribution.
