Sixth Schedule Amendment Bill likely by year-end

SHILLONG, Sep 22: The Centre is likely to table the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the winter session of Parliament by the end of this year.
The Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019 intend to grant more financial, executive and administrative powers to autonomous councils under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
This was revealed by Union Ministry of Home Affairs adviser, AK Mishra to a KHADC delegation led by CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Saturday.
Syiem on Sunday said they were made to understand that the Centre is planning to table the amendment bill in December.
Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, he said they have made it amply clear that they will not compromise on the preservation and protection of the traditional practices, customs and rights of the indigenous tribes.
Besides Syiem, the KHADC delegation also included Chairman Lamphrang Blah and Executive Member Fantin J Lakadong.
