MAWKYRWAT, Sep 22: The National People’s Party (NPP) Mawkyrwat Block Committee held a meeting on Saturday at Mawkyrwat Dorbar Hall, South West Khasi Hills, where the name of sitting MDC Carness Sohshang was unanimously approved as the NPP candidate from Mawkyrwat Constituency for the upcoming KHADC elections.
In his speech, Sohshang thanked all the leaders and party workers for selecting him as the candidate for the upcoming election. He also urged the party leaders to continue working hard to secure victory for the NPP.
Sohshang, who won the last MDC election on a Congress ticket before joining the NPP earlier this year, dismissed rumours that his switch to the NPP would be “suicidal.”
“Some people said that Carness is committing suicide by joining the NPP. Some even told me directly that it would be a suicidal move. But the fact is, I joined this party to strengthen it, with the aim of bringing development to our area. The NPP leads the government, and that’s why I’m not afraid to contest this election. It is a privilege for me to represent a party that has steadily grown in our state,” Sohshang said.
The meeting was attended by working president of the NPP South West Khasi Hills District Committee, HS Diengdoh, president of the NPP Mawkyrwat Block Committee, P Nongsiej, secretary of the NPP Mawkyrwat Block Committee, Sylvester Syiemlieh, ex-MDC and senior NPP leader, Enbin Kharaswai, as well as leaders from various primary units and supporters of the NPP Mawkyrwat Constituency.
The meeting proceeded smoothly, with no internal disagreements, and all attendees expressed their unanimous support for Sohshang as the candidate.
NPP Mawkyrwat Block president P Nongsiej stated that the block committee had fulfilled its duties and would send the report to the district and central bodies. “I am confident that the NPP leadership will accept and respect the decision made by the Mawkyrwat Constituency,” Nongsiej said.
