SHILLONG, Sep 22: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Sunday expressed its opposition to the attempt of the BJP government to change the Constitution to implement their goal of ‘one nation, one election’.
“BJP is known for bringing certain policies that prove counterproductive for India and there is likelihood that this attempt will not be practical beyond one election,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said.
He said, “Unless Presidential system of government replaces parliamentary democracy it is simply impractical in the long run to have one nation, one election”.
Terming the Modi government’s plans to implement ‘one nation, one election’ a means to achieve some hidden but long-term agenda, Myrboh said, “The government may be aware that this is impractical in the long run, but they would like to make use of it as a means to achieve other agendas. This is really worrisome.”
