SHILLONG, Sep 27: Following the recent arrest of a notorious female drug supplier in Jhalupara, South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai on Friday wrote to the CEO of Shillong Cantonment Board, expressing concerns about the threat illegal immigrants pose to society and the country at large.
Shullai, in the letter, also informed that a joint meeting will be held on October 2 at Jhalupara Community Hall, which will be attended by the Police department, stakeholders and leaseholders of the Shillong Cantonment Board.
According to the MLA, the meeting aims to inform leaseholders and stakeholders that non-residents of Meghalaya must possess all requisite documents, including police verification from their respective states, to stay in the area.
Shullai also warned that leaseholders in areas like Lower Paltan must comply with these regulations, and failure to do so will result in strict action. “Owners sheltering such criminals should also be booked as per the law,” Shullai stated, stressing the importance of cooperation in preventing criminal activities in the region.
