SHILLONG, Sep 29: KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngain N Syiem on Sunday said the Council has suspended former Syiem of Hima Nongspung, Patrick Syiemiong, due to several complaints regarding his mishandling of affairs in many of the villages under the Hima.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Syiem said the Council suspended Syiemiong pending an inquiry against him.
The Executive Committee has appointed an Acting Syiem to manage the affairs of the Hima until the inquiry committee submits its report.  “We will wait for the findings of the inquiry committee,” Syiem said.
When asked about the demand to remove the Acting Syiem, KHADC Deputy CEM Syiem clarified that there is no question of removing the Acting Syiem. He stated that the Acting Syiem will remain in office until the inquiry is concluded.
Earlier, the former Syiem of Hima Nongspung had demanded that the KHADC Deputy CEM remove the Acting Syiem, Kyntiewborlang Syiemlieh, accusing him of misusing his position by interfering in the affairs of various villages under the Hima.
“If PN Syiem is committed to protecting the customary practices of the Hima, he should remove the Acting Syiem within three days,” Syiemiong asserted.
According to Syiemiong, the KHADC Deputy CEM had misused his authority in removing him without valid grounds. He expressed confidence that the removal of the Acting Syiem should not pose an issue, as there is evidence of Syiemlieh’s interference in village durbars.
