SHILLONG, Sep 26: The State Bank of India (SBI), through its Regional Business Office Shillong Urban, organised a tree plantation drive to reaffirm its commitment to environmental sustainability. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, SBI collaborated with the ‘Bantei Ia Ka Lawei Baphyrnai Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd’ to plant over 4,500 saplings at Umrynjah, East Khasi Hills.
The event, attended by SBI officials including Chief Manager Operations Biswadeep Dutta, Chief Manager SLBC Meghalaya Shempang Lyngdoh, and Lead Bank Manager Montu Goswami, emphasised the bank’s dedication to promoting afforestation as a critical step towards protecting the environment.
The society has committed to nurturing the saplings as they continue to grow, and the initiative will extend to other parts of the state. Recognising the global impact of deforestation and climate change, SBI and the society also urged citizens to be vigilant against wildfires, which pose a significant threat to environmental sustainability.
